Human Rights Activist Dewa Mavhinga Passes Away


Human Rights Watch has expressed deep sadness over the sudden death of its Southern Africa director and outspoken human rights activist Dewa Mavhinga. The cause of death is still unclear, but some publications have reported that he has succumbed to COVID-19 in South Africa. News of Mavhinga's demise sent shockwaves among civil rights, journalists, and opposition activists in southern Africa and beyond, with many using social media to send condolences.
