Serbia’s incumbent President Aleksandar Vucic has been re-elected. Vucic won decisively, taking about three times the number of votes of his nearest rival, with his ruling party also sweeping to victory in the parliamentary polls. Some opposition politicians had accused him of rigging the vote – but Vucic accused them of trying to do the same thing. Vucic walked a fine line during the campaign, by highlighting Serbia's traditional ties with Moscow and also voicing aspirations to join the European Union. But the war in Ukraine has put Serbia under pressure to choose between its traditional ties with Moscow and its EU aspirations.
